Lilly Singh To Be Honoured with Star on Scarborough Walk of Fame

The Scarborough native and globally-recognized entertainer will join inductees at the September 15 ceremony

Scarborough, ON  Aug 31, 2022—Actress, comedian and writer Lilly Singh will receive a Star at the Scarborough Walk of Fame induction ceremony on September 15.

Singh has soared to success in the entertainment world building a multi-faceted career, which began at her childhood home in Scarborough where she started her groundbreaking YouTube channel in 2010. Today, with more than 14 million subscribers worldwide, Singh’s channel served as a powerful launchpad for her career in Hollywood where she has now found success in film, TV and books.

This year alone, Singh made her debut as a judge on the hit show Canada’s Got Talent; starred in the Dreamworks animated comedy The Bad Guys, which topped the box office; and published her second book Be A Triangle, an instant Canadian bestseller. Upcoming, Singh will star in the new Disney+ series The Muppets Mayhem.

“I attribute the best parts of me to being born and bred in Scarborough. From naming my dog ‘Scarbro’ to my 416 tattoo, I am beyond proud of my hometown and am honoured to receive this acknowledgment,” said Singh. “I can’t wait to be back for this event, and thank you to the Scarborough Walk of Fame committee for this true career highlight.”

Singh graduated from Lester B. Pearson Collegiate Institute in 2006 and completed her degree in psychology from York University in 2010. During this time, Singh made the decision to start a YouTube channel as an outlet to pursue her passion for sketch comedy and storytelling. She began writing, producing and starring in videos about her experience as a young Indian-Canadian woman that resonated with audiences worldwide. With the channel’s growing success, Singh moved to Los Angeles in 2015 to continue building her YouTube presence, whilst securing roles in film and TV projects such as Ice Age: Collision Course, Dollface and Bad Moms, as well as other recognitions including becoming a face of Olay, being named a UNICEF Goodwill Global Ambassador in 2017 and appearing on the covers of Vogue India, Marie Claire in the US, and ELLE Canada.

In 2019, Singh made history when it was announced she would host a late night talk show, “A Little Late with Lilly Singh” on NBC.  Singh was the only woman to host a late-night show on broadcast network television in the US in nearly two decades over the show’s two season run.

To further her passion for storytelling, Singh founded Unicorn Island Productions, a company dedicated to telling stories by voices that have long been underestimated and underrepresented across film and television. This year, Unicorn Island Productions, Blink49 Studios and Bell Media struck a first-look global scripted and second-look unscripted deal.

“I don’t know where you’d start when talking about the support and the joy Lilly’s work has brought to people,” said Marg Middleton, Scarborough Walk of Fame Chair. “So wonderful for a truly proud Scarborough-born talent to accomplish so much in so many different areas. We are very proud to have her join the walk of fame.”

At the ceremony, Walk of Fame members are honoured by a star embedded in a court on the main floor of the Scarborough Town Centre. Eleven people will be inducted this September to the walk of fame. Four Rising Star awards will be given to youth who have distinguished themselves in the community.

“We are very excited to be supporting the Scarborough Walk of Fame, as Celestial partner, honouring those individuals from various facets of life, bringing pride to Scarborough and inspiring tomorrow’s leaders,” said Gerd Wengler, President of Park Property Management Inc.
